Dancer – Choreographer
Ms Ankah is a certified dance teacher, graduate under scholarship of the Merce Cunningham Studio.
She originally moved to New York to study Graham technique at the Alvin Ailey school. Dancing every day from the age of 7, she has a solid background in Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Contemporary from France at Janis Godfrey’s Institut de Danse et des Arts de l’Isère.
She has worked for Meredith Monk at the Guggenheim Museum, as well as Mina Nishimura at Dance Theater Workshop, where the NYTimes qualified the piece of “bewitching and irritating.” She has a natural instinct for cross-discipline work, being a triple threat performer and is well-versed in collaborative environments.
Ms. Ankah is also a choreographer, and showed her work at Movement Research at the Judson Church, the Merce Cunningham Studio, the HERE Arts Center and the Aabrons Arts Center. She obtained residencies at FAR space from the Field and Silo from DanceNOW/nyc. Her dance films “One Way” and “Waterfront Access?” have been awarded respectively best experimental film and best dance film at the Big Apple Film Festival and for the Golden Reel Award in Tiburon, California.
